Adam Driver and Rooney Mara are lined up to star in Annette, the new film from Leos Carax, the French auteur behind the art house cult hit Holy Motors.
Annette, which is to be Carax's English-language debut, will star Driver and Mara as lovers at the centre of an intense romance. This writer hasn't yet had the chance to catch Carax's 2012 cult hit Holy Motors, but if the rave reviews and startling imagery from that film are anything to go by, Annette looks like it's going to be a real cinematic treat.
Both actors have acquitted themselves extremely well in their careers so far. Adam Driver is hot off shooting on Rian Johnson's highly-anticipated sequel to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and stars this year in two movies this writer is eager to see: Martin Scorsese's Silence, a new period piece about Jesuit monks who travel as missionaries to seventeenth century Japan, and Jim Jarmusch's Paterson. He's also starring in Logan Lucky, the new film from Steven Soderbergh, which is set to come out in Autumn of next year.
Rooney Mara most recently starred opposite Cate Blanchett in Carol, one of this writer's low key favourites from 2015, and co-starred with Ben Mendelsohn and Riz Ahmed in Una, which had its premiere last month at the London Film Festival and has been receiving no small amount of critical acclaim.
Annette does not currently have a release date, but is set to start shooting in Spring 2017.
