So, it looks like Pacific Rim 2 is pulling, what we’re now calling, the age-old press strategy of starting off with a bulk announcement of cast members before moving onto a steady drip-feeding of information. The latest of this is the newest addition to the cast in the form of Adria Arjona.
Adria Arjona’s addition to the Pacific Rim 2 cast seems to keeping in line with the largely fresh actors that the film is, so far, made up of. Known mostly for her work on TV shows such as Emerald City and upcoming movies The Belko Experiment and Life of the Party, Arjon is very much in the early stages of her career. Not only this but the Guatemalan/Puerto Rican actor will add the international diversity which Pacific Rim is known for.
The biggest names attached to the movie at the moment are leading actor John Boyega and Scott Eastwood, but even though they’re both very well known Boyega has one major movie under his belt and Eastwood has many bit parts under his. Boyega is set to play the son of Stacker Pentecost who, as portrayed by Idris Elba in the previous film, lead the Jaeger programme in the battle against the gigantic Kaiju but ultimately sacrificed himself at the end of the last movie. So, yeah, spoilers.
Guillermo Del Toro won’t be returning to direct, instead handing the mantle over to Steven S. DeKnight (Marvel’s Daredevil, Smallville) but Del Toro is staying as a producer alongside Boyega who is also producing. As we announced previously, Levi Meaden and Jiang Tian are also part of the ever-growing team to battle against the dreaded Kaiju.
Pacific Rim 2 (working title Pacific Rim: Maelstrom) will crash into UK cinemas on 23rd February 2018.
