Alien: Covenant has officially wrapped on set and gone into post-production as it prepares itself for it’s release date next year. With the amount of social media presence this film has had so far it’s no surprise that they continue to keep this going. On their Facebook page you can now view a video which counts down to the release date.
Alien: Covenant will be the sixth film of the Alien franchise (discounting the dreadful AVP series) and it acts as both a sequel to 2012’s Prometheus and prequel to 1979’s Alien. The film will star Katherine Waterston in the lead role as “Daniels” aboard the Covenant on it’s journey to a paradise planet. Unsurprisingly, the planet turns out to be less than paradise with no one around except Michael Fassbender’s David who claims to be the sole survivor of the Prometheus mission.
The movie is now, as of last Thursday, a year from it’s official release and to celebrate this there is now a count down video. This isn’t one of those Facebook count downs you’ll find on your nan’s profile counting down to Christmas, this is something a little more interesting. The video is a looped feed of Waterston in her hyper-sleep chamber, the sci-fi sleeping chambers used for space travel. The video is used to signify that Waterston’s character is currently in hyper-sleep, on her way to being awoken for the film. You can watch the video here.
Callie Hernandez, one of the other stars of the film, may not have had her character revealed to us yet but she has spoken about the experience on set and also the menacing Xenomorph which director Ridley Scott confirmed would be making a return. When talking about the set of the Covenant, which was largely built in full, she said “The sets are very real. You’re in this built ship and then he’s like ‘Turn on the hydraulics.’ Then you’re like, what is he talking about? Then it’s suddenly shaking and you’re like, ‘Oh, that’s what he means.’ So the sets were pretty unreal.” When asked if seeing the Xenomorph broke the illusion of the beast she firmly replied “No, it was just as terrifying as you would ever imagine it to be.”
With filming completed we now just wait patiently for the film to be released. Joining Waterston and Fassbender here will be Noomi Rapace returning as Dr Elizabeth Shaw as well as franchise newcomers Demián Bichir, Jussie Smolett, Amy Seimetz, Carmen Ejogo, Callie Hernandez, Billy Crudup and Danny McBride as the Covenant's pilot.
Alien: Covenant has a release date of 4th August 2017.
