It’s been a little quiet on the Marvel front for their Black Panther film after the initial casting. We haven’t heard too much about what they’re up to but now we’ve learned they’ve just added London has Fallen’s Angela Bassett to their impressive cast.
Angela Bassett has a very impressive portfolio behind her. We know she’s at home in big action movies from Olympus has Fallen, London has Fallen and Survivor. But she does have some superhero experience under her belt as she was previously in DC’s Green Lantern. So, Black Panther is going to be a walk in the park for Bassett by the looks of it.
Bassett is set to play Ramonda, the mother of T’Challa, AKA: Black Panther, as played by the golden-voiced Chadwick Boseman. We’re not sure just how big of a role she’ll have but as (Civil War spoiler here) T'Challa be returning to Wakanda after the assassination of his father, we can imagine there’ll be some strong emotional scenes between T’Challa and Ramonda.
Bassett will be joining the powerful cast of Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Forest Whitaker, Lupita Nyong’o and Daniel Kaluuya. We haven’t seen a Marvel solo movie with a cast this big for a while so we have high hopes!
Black Panther is currently scheduled to start filming early next year with a UK release date of 9 February 2018, a week earlier than our American friends, sorry guys!
