In the film industry, no subject has had as many films made about it than World War II. Hardly a year goes by without a film based around it in one way or another and with the upcoming drama Darkest Hour this trend is set to continue.
The name Ben Mendelsohn will sound very familiar to people at the moment as he is Director Krennic in Rogue One; A Star Wars Story but he has had a long film career. As has Kristin Scott Thomas who is a BAFTA winning and Academy Award nominated actor. Both of these established talents are set to star in this upcoming Winston Churchill drama, directed by Atonement filmmaker Joe Wright.
Darkest Hour is set as a drama surrounding the famous British prime minister who is credited as a driving force behind the Allied victory against the Nazi regime. Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight trilogy) is being brought on to play the part of the big man himself. He is being joined by the renowned John Hurt and Lily James, as well as Mendelsohn and Scott Thomas.
Mendelsohn is set to play King George VI, Scott Thomas as Churchwill’s wife Clementine, Hurt as Neville Chamberlain who proceeded Churchill in office and James as his personal secretary.
Darkest Hour should begin filming in the coming weeks with a UK release date of 29th December 2017.
