Back in May we reported that director Shane Black was hard at work getting everything ready for filming Predator, the latest addition of the classic 1980’s alien trophy hunter. We already know the name of our lead character and now Benicio Del Toro is currently eyeing up starring in the sci-fi thriller.
Shane Black (Iron Man 3) is all set and ready to get cameras rolling on Predator. He has said before that this isn’t going to be a low-budget factory movie made for the sake of making some money. No, he has said that he wants to make an ‘event’ of the Predator movies again, as they were in the 80’s. We already know that he has a leading character called Quinn McKenna, a name that oozes testosterone, but he just needs an actor to fill that name.
Benicio Del Toro is currently in talks to join Predator, but we don’t know if he’s going for the leading role or not. If you don’t know the name of Del Toro you’ll definitely know his work, he was The Collector in Guardians of the Galaxy, Alejandro in Sicario and Franky Four Fingers in Snatch. He is also set in an unnamed role for Star Wars: Episode VIII.
I’m personally a big fan of Del Toro so to see him potentially joining Predator is a very exciting prospect. Coupled with Black’s enthusiasm to make this movie an event we could be looking at a solid revival of the 80’s icon. Working from a script by Fred Dekker (Robocop 3, Star Trek: Enterprise), Black has said that this film is "An attempt to make it more mysterious. The Predator has been so overdone. Every couple of years, there's a knock-off churned out. Very low budget with a guaranteed return.”
Predator doesn’t have a release date yet and we are still waiting on the rest of the cast to be confirmed.
