World War Z was the 2013 zombie film adapted from the graphic novel of the same name. Although it was very, very different to the novel it was also very successful and honestly I thought it was really quite good. Star and producer Brad Pitt has been looking for a director for a sequel and it looks like he’s eyeing up David Fincher for the role.
Juan Antonia Bayona, known for The Impossible and The Orphanage, was originally lined up for the undead sequel but had to exit the project in favour of Jurassic World 2, which is understandable. After all, zombies or dinosaurs? Tough choice. It now looks like Brad Pitt is on his way to luring Fight Club and The Social Network director David Fincher into making the film.
Pitt has been seen with Fincher over the past weeks in discussions to join the film. According to some reports Fincher was pretty interested in joining the film. But now he is apparently even more interested and is beginning to engage in negotiations for getting a contract potentially drawn up. Fincher is one of my personal favourite directors so the possibility of him directing a zombie movie is honestly very exciting.
The World War Z sequel is currently scheduled for release on 9th June 2017 but this may be rescheduled as they’re cutting it tight at the moment.
