Star Trek star Chris Pine will be joining Ava DuVernay’s adaptation of A Wrinkle In Time.
A Wrinkle In Time has been adapted for the screen from Madeleine L’Engle’s tale for children by Frozen writer and co-director Jennifer Lee, with Ava DuVernay directing. The story went on to become the Time Quartet series (meaning there is definite potential for sequels if this film does well).
The story follows the Murray family, in particular teenager Meg (Storm Reid), her genius 5-year-old brother Charles Wallace, and her classmate Calvin O’Keefe. Meg’s scientist father, played by Pine, has gone missing - but a visit from a mysterious woman named Mrs. Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon) reveals that his research may have been more successful than anticipated, and he may have travelled through space and time. The children manage to track him to the planet Camazotz, ruled by an evil brain called The Black Thing.
There are several other big names in the cast so far, including Gugu Mbatha-Raw (who will be playing Meg’s mother), Oprah Winfrey and Mindy Kaling. Production is looking to start before the end of the year in Los Angeles.
