Zack Snyder's superhero team-up sequel to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has finally cast its villain, with Ciarán Hinds joining the production.
The veteran Irish actor will be playing Steppenwolf via voice and motion performance capture. Hinds' vocal presence and physicality, proven (at least to this writer) across incredible yet oft-understated performances in Road to Perdition, Munich, There Will Be Blood, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and Game of Thrones, to name just a few of the actor's 100+ credits, are sure to be boons for the character.
Steppenwolf appeared briefly (and cryptically) in a deleted scene placed towards the end of Batman v Superman's Ultimate Edition, looming over an unhinged Lex Luthor before disappearing. Hopefully, the hiring of Hinds for the role means we'll get a little more substance from the Kirby-created supervillain this time around.
Justice League is currently in post-production, set for release in November 2017.
