One of the most iconic children’s stories, Peter Rabbit, is being brought to the silver screen in a blend of live-action and CGI. In very typical fashion from Sony, the cast being built up for this is one with quite a few big names, the most recent of which is Daisy Ridley and Elizabeth Debicki.
For anyone who doesn’t know, because they had a depraved childhood, Peter Rabbit is the children’s story book series written by Beatrix Potter. It follows the titular Peter, who wears a very spiffing blue cardigan, and his adventures with his fellow British countryside animal friends. It is one of the most quintessentially British children stories, the first story having been published over a hundred years ago.
The latest additions to the cast for this upcoming feature film adaptation has come in the form of Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby, The Man From UNCLE). Ridley and Debicki haven’t been given any specific roles yet but they are listed as voice roles so we suspect they’ll be playing part of Peter Rabbit’s family.
Joining Ridley and Debicki will be already confirmed talents of James Corden and Rose Byrne. Corden will be playing the leading role as Peter himself with Byrne in a live-action role playing someone called Bea. We suspect that this is a reference to the original author of the stories, Beatrix Potter, and so we may get a narrator or a literal story book element here. I’m thinking something along the lines of The Princess Bride in style, but that’s just a guess.
This adaptation is still in early development between Sony’s Columbia Pictures and Potter’s long-time publisher, Frederick Warne & Co., so we have yet to get any more cast details or a release date.
