David Ayer Teases Villain For Gotham City Sirens

Ayer posted a comic panel of the Black Mask, one of Batman’s biggest nemeses, to his Twitter at the beginning of the week - and since Ayer isn’t currently down to direct Suicide Squad 2, it could well be a hint at the villain for his next project, Gotham City Sirens.

Gotham City Sirens will be seeing Margot Robbie reprise her role as Harley Quinn, though this time she will be joined by Poison Ivy and Catwoman. Black Mask was first introduced in the comics in 1985, and is notorious for his obsession with masks (probably not surprisingly), his sadism, and his ongoing rivalry with the caped crusader. Both Catwoman and Black Mask have been feuding with Batman in the comics recently, so the latter showing up in Gotham City Sirens isn’t a huge stretch.
This also isn’t the first time Ayer has posted his teases to Twitter: in 2015 he tweeted the first look at Jared Leto’s Joker, and in December he posted an illustration of Harley, Poison Ivy and Catwoman with the hashtag ‘sirens’, confirming that they will be in his next film.
There’s no word on the planned release for Gotham City Sirens, but it appears to be trucking along smoothly in development so far, and if all continues to go well we should definitely be seeing it well before Suicide Squad 2.
