Adam Shankman has just been announced as the director of the sequel to Disney’s 2007 film Enchanted.
Shankman is well known for his work directing musicals - most notably, the 2007 movie Hairspray. Amy Adams is also expected to reprise her role, and Disney is hoping to get the cameras rolling by summer 2017.
The sequel, entitled Disenchanted, will come almost ten years after the release of the somewhat underrated original. Combining traditional 2D animation and live action footage, Enchanted is a hilarious, heartwarming and surprisingly self-aware tale of Giselle (Amy Adams), who accidentally gets transported to New York on the day she is to marry her Prince Charming. I won’t spoil anything here, because you should absolutely watch it if you haven’t already.
Disenchanted will be set 10 years later and, as the name suggests, finds Giselle questioning the happily ever after she found and accidentally sets off a chain of events that not only disrupt the real world, but the animated world of Andalasia too.
Shankman is joined by screenwriters David Stem and David Weiss.
