The Walt Disney Company have officially confirmed that director, Jon Favreau will be working on a "reimagining" of The Lion King with the project being put on fast track production. The project follows Favreau's technologically groundbreaking work on The Jungle Book which debuted last April and earned $965.8 million worldwide.
The Lion King joins the other movies Disney has been working on to reimagine such as Beauty And The Beast which is due out in early 2017 and is already one of the most anticipated movies of that year.
The Walt Disney Company also confirmed that The Lion King, much like The Jungle Book, will include songs from the original hit movie, which at the time of release was the biggest animated movie all time with a lifetime global box office gross of $968.8 million. It won Academy Awards for the original song, "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" by Elton John and Tim Rice and for it's original score by Hans Zimmer.
Disney and Faveau are also working on a sequel to The Jungle Book though at this point, there is no release date set.
