Christopher Nolan is making is grand return after 2014's Interstellar with the World War II epic set to blow us away; Dunkirk. We have the first official trailer below.
We have been waiting very patiently for this trailer. Christopher Nolan is probably one of the best cinematic directors around at the moment and has yet to make a bad move in his film-making career (say what you want about Interstellar, you can't deny its a visual masterpiece). So now we can feast our eyes on the World War II epic drama telling of the biggest Allied retreat from the French shores, starring the equally epic cast of Kenneth Branagh, Mark Rylance, and Nolan's favourites, Tom Hardy and Cillian Murphy.
First of all, yes Warner Bros. are calling it a teaser but sitting at a generous 2 minutes, it's definitely a trailer.
Yes, I have to confirm to you that you did indeed see One Direction star Harry Stiles here in his first major motion picture appearance. I want to laugh and make judgement but I've seen how good Justin Timberlake was in The Social Network so I'll keep my judgement of the pop-star-turned-actor until I've seen his work.
The trailer is dark and moody with the classic dulcet pastels we've come to expect from Nolan. The mood is also befitting this with the atmosphere heavy and sombre. The trailer paints itself as being one of 'hope' but we don't get much of that here. Even seeing Rylance leading the civilian boats to help the stranded soldiers, there's no big motivational speech or anything of the sort; just real and stark harshness of a war-time retreat.
I'm personally very excited to see this movie and I'm probably going to be a big dirty hipster and see it in the 35mm or 70mm showings because that's kinda cool.
Dunkirk hits UK cinemas 21st July 2017.
