So, yeah. We got a The Angry Birds Movie earlier this year and it actually wasn’t the worst movie in the world. But now, whether we like or not, the next no-longer-relevant gaming app to be slated for a feature film is Fruit Ninja. Excuse us while we sigh loudly and roll our eyes.
Now, we’re not against games being made into movies, despite their bad history. I actually enjoyed Warcraft and I’m very excited for Assassin’s Creed. However, I really do have to be somewhat cynical about a fruit based mobile game being made into a movie.
If you don’t know, Fruit Ninja was (emphasis on ‘was’) a briefly popular game where you had to swipe the screen to chop up fruit that was thrown at you. That’s it. That was the game. That’s it. There was nothing else to it but, for better or worse, we’re now going to be getting a full feature length movie on it, courtesy of New Line.
The story, being written by JP Lavin and Chad Damiani, is going to apparently focus on a team of misfits who are recruited to become Fruit Ninjas in order to save the world. If that didn’t make you vomit then you’ve a stronger stomach than I.
