Although we first got a taste of Gambit back in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine a completely separate spin-off movie has been in the works for some time now. Unfortunately, however, it now looks as though the film has hit a bump in losing it’s director.
Channing Tatum is all set to star as Remy LeBeau, AKA: Gambit. The mutant has the power of transferring kinetic energy into objects making them explosive and a member of the X-Men. He has been attached to this role for some time now and doesn’t look to be going anywhere with the role as director Doug Liman is no longer a part of the project.
The Mr & Mrs Smith director has left the project in, what has been described as, “a mutual parting of ways”, so there wasn’t a big schism by the looks of it. Liman originally signed up back in October 2015, nearly a full year ago. With delays and several complete re-writes, the production of this movie has been something of a mess. Filming has been most recently moved to early 2017.
There is no release date set for Gambit at the moment and I can’t imagine we’ll get one for a while.
