The sci-fi first contact thriller Life, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds, and Rebecca Ferguson, has received a tense first trailer.
The film tells the story of an international space crew that discovers life on Mars. Judging by the trailer, this goes about as well as you'd expect it to in a space-set thriller. Life also stars Hiroyuki Sanada, Ariyon Bakare, Alexandre Nguyen, and Olga Dihovichnaya.
The film is helmed by Swedish director Daniel Espinosa, known most recently for historical drama Child 44 and action thriller Safe House, and written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, writers of Deadpool and Zombieland.
How a pair of primarily action comedy writers will handle what seems to be a fairly enclosed, paranoia-filled sci-fi thriller is up in the air. This writer is a big sucker for space stuff, which means he'll probably be catching it at some point, but so far nothing is really setting this apart from others in the genre, aside from the cast (Gyllenhaal is just plain excellent, and Rebecca Ferguson is a certified badass).
We'll find out when Life gets its wide release here in the UK on the 12th of May, 2017.
