Pacific Rim 2 has been gaining traction in its development recently, building up it’s cast as it gets ready to start filming. As it stands we currently have newcomers John Boyega, Scott Eastwood and Cailee Spaeny on board and joining them will be Chinese actor Jing Tian.
If it’s one thing that Pacific Rim 2 seems to be doing it’s bringing on actors that would be considered to be newcomers or ‘unknowns’. While we all know John Boyega from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, he is still relatively new on the Hollywood scene and Scott Eastwood has had bit-parts here and there. Cailee Spaeny is the definition of a fresh new face as she only has 2 indie flicks to her name and we now have Jing Tian who has yet to make her English-language debut.
Tian is about to be someone that we’ll get to know quite well, however. We’re going to be seeing her alongside Matt Damon in The Great Wall and alongside Tom Hiddleston in Kong: Skull Island so she may not be unknown to English-speaking audiences for much longer. She has signed on to be a part of Pacific Rim 2 but, at the moment, we don’t know who she’ll be playing. She does keep in line with the international theme of the Pacific Rim universe which was known for having a diverse cast.
Steven s. DeKnight (Marvel’s Daredevil, Smallville) is taking over from Guillermo Del Toro as director, who’s staying on as a producer, and will be working with Boyega who’s on as a producer with his own production company who are co-producing the film. DeKnight is set to get cameras rolling this November and film in China and Australia.
Working on the unofficial title of Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, Jaegers and Kaiju will battle their way onto cinema screens on 23rd February 2018.
