With John Boyega, Will Poulter and Anthony Mackie already on board, Kathryn Bigelow is setting herself up to have an incredible film on her hands. Looking at the devastating 1967 Detroit Riots, the film has it’s latest addition in the form of US actor John Krasinski.
John Krasinski will be most known to US audiences for his leading role in The Office but he has had several small roles in some big films such as voice credits for Monster’s University and Shrek the Third as well as some bigger action films including 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. As with most of the movie we don’t actually know exactly what role he’ll be playing in this film.
Director Kathryn Bigelow (Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty) is working with regular collaborator and writer Mark Boal on brining this movie to life. In a city rampant with racially charged police brutality, massive and deadly riots broke out for several days in Detroit in 1967. The movie will have a very relevant tone with the current media focus on the police brutality in the US.
John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) is playing a leading role in the film and has just wrapped on his part for the film. He is joined by Anthony Mackie (Captain America: Civil War) who plays a returning Vietnam veteran and Will Poulter (The Revenant). The move still has yet to be titled or have a release date but with 2017 as the 50th Anniversary of the riots we assume a release date next year is very likely.
