David Leitch, previously co-director on 2014's action extravaganza John Wick, has been lined up to direct Deadpool 2 following the departure of Tim Miller.
If you're anything like this writer, you'll agree that the news surrounding the sequel to last year's smash hit superhero comedy Deadpool has been a genuine roller-coaster of emotions, from its announcement, to the reported departure of original director Tim Miller, to the perhaps-premature announcement of a third movie.
Well, I won't say rejoice just yet, but we have a light on the horizon. As previously reported, he was a hot tip for it, but now it's official: actor and stunt coordinator David Leitch has now been brought on direct. Leitch most recently co-directed John Wick, but his work as a stunt coordinator is incredibly prolific, including work on Jupiter Ascending, TRON: Legacy, The King of Fighters, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and on and on. If this and the supreme directing of the fight sequences in John Wick are anything to go by, the action in Deadpool 2 will at least be something to look forward to.
Deadpool 2, starring a returning Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth, and possibly featuring a rumoured appearance by Deadpool-adjacent, time-traveling comic book character Cable, is still early in pre-production, with a tentative release date of March 2018. Let's hope this director doesn't also get cold feet.
