Rising star Justice Smith is joining a returning Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard in the sequel to Jurassic World.
Justice Smith most recently played the lead in Baz Luhrmann's lush, exciting period musical The Get Down, the story of a group of teenagers taking part in the birth of hip hop in the Bronx of the 1970s (which this writer would highly recommend, by the way, the series is genuinely excellent). He also acquitted himself well in the big screen YA book adaptation Paper Towns. No news yet on who he might be playing in the Jurassic World sequel; the production is being understandably secretive.
This writer has to admit he was not a big fan of the first movie, but the presence of Smith is certainly making the prospect of a sequel a lot more attractive - a quick look at either of those previous roles should tell you we've got a genuine star in the making here. Justice Smith is one to watch.
J.A. Bayona, director of A Monster Calls, is on directing duties here, replacing Colin Treverrow (the soon-to-be Star Wars Episode IX director). Treverrow is instead co-writing the script along with Derek Connolly. After all, he's got a dang Star Wars film on his horizon. He's kind of busy.
The as-yet untitled film does not currently have a release date, so as always, watch this space!
