Han Solo may be a scoundrel who won over Princess Leia’s heart but nobody in the galaxy is as smooth or charming as Cloud City’s Lando Calrissian. He is also the man who lost the Millenium Falcon to Han Solo in a game of sabacc and we may just see how that game went down with the news that Lando will appear in the young Han Solo movie.
Billy Dee Williams famously played the Baron Administrator of Cloud City who first appeared in The Empire Strikes Back. In this we learn that he and Han Solo have a history together and that Solo pulled some sort of stunt that landed Calrissian in some hot water. We may finally get to see some of their adventures now that Calrissian is confirmed to be a part of the young Han Solo movie which is set to be the second Star Wars Story movie after Rogue One.
There is no word yet at the moment as to who could play the smooth talking smuggler. The rumour mill, and I need to emphasise this just a rumour, is currently releasing whispers of Donald Glover playing the role. I personally think this is a great choice as Glover has that charm and smoothness that Calrissian is known for and would be a respectable follow-up to Williams’ performance. But this is strictly hear-say and nothing has been remotely confirmed about this.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller are preparing to begin filming early next year with Alden Ehrenreich in the leading role as the loveable scoundrel. The current release date is looking to be sometime in May 2018 but that could very likely change.
