Just last week we reported that the massive mechs V monster movie sequel Pacific Rim 2 had added Jian Tian to the roster but we now have the young Levi Meaden also on board to try out and see how drift compatible he is.
Levi Meaden will be a new entry into Hollywood having worked on TV up until now. He has a fairly impressive port folio in TV, having starred in The Killing, iZombie and Olympus. Meaden being brought onto the film is keeping in line with the almost exclusively newbie cast, joining fellow ‘unknowns’ Cailee Spaeny and Jiang Tian as well as John Boyega and Scott Eastwood.
We know that Boyega is set to star as the son of Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba) who was commander of the Jaeger programme which was responsible for the gigantic mech suits which punch their way through the giant kaiju which rose from a portal in the pacific ocean. And that’s all we know, all the other actors are in mysterious unannounced roles and the plot is nearly entirely unknown.
Steven s. DeKnight (Marvel’s Daredevil, Smallville) is taking over from Guillermo Del Toro as director, who’s staying on as a producer, and will be working with Boyega who’s on as a producer with his own production company who are co-producing the film. DeKnight is set to get cameras rolling this November and film in China and Australia.
Working on the unofficial title of Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, Jaegers and Kaiju will battle their way onto cinema screens on 23rd February 2018.
