Charlize Theron is going to be delivering some serious ass-kicking for the new Cold War thriller Atomic Blonde.

Atomic Blonde has been mostly spearheaded by Theron, who acquired the rights to Antony Johnston and Sam Hart's graphic novel The Coldest City a few years ago. Now, director David Leitch (John Wick) and writer Kurt Johnstad are bringing the story to the big screen with the Mad Max: Fury Road star playing Agent Lorraine Broughton, a skilled intelligence operative brought in when an undercover MI6 operator is killed just before the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Her high-stakes mission is to track down a list the operator was smuggling to the West in the hopes of preventing herself and her colleagues from being jeopardized by the release of crucial information - and it absolutely won’t be easy, with double-crossing agents and global agendas.
Theron told EW: “I hadn’t seen another character like her out there. She doesn’t apologise for anything. We made her strong and feisty. She’s cheeky. These were all things I responded to.”
Leitch also had high praise for Theron, especially regarding her action shots: “It’s refreshing to find an actor who can do these long, long takes, memorize the choreography, maintain the character, and deliver a performance. She’s extraordinary.”
Honestly, not surprising to hear that the actress who played Furiosa is going to be a pretty phenomenal action heroine.
Atomic Blonde will be released in the UK on 11 August.
