umours have been buzzing for a few years about a new film based on The Matrix, and now it looks like we’re finally getting some confirmation that it’s going ahead.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. have been in talks with writer Zak Penn to write a treatment for the new film.
There are currently whisperings that Michael B. Jordan is in line for the lead role, but other than that, very little else has been decided apart from working on new ideas. It’s even hard to tell so far whether or not this will be a reboot of the original franchise or the beginning of a new set of sequels.
However, we do know that the original creators, Lana and Lilly Wachowski, won’t be involved with this new film. Keanu Reeves, who starred in the original trilogy and was elevated to icon status through the role of Neo and who is still taking the action world by storm as John Wick, isn’t officially involved either. However, he has said he would consider it if the Wachowskis were on board, and it seems unlikely that Warner Bros. would go ahead without the Wachowskis’ blessing, so we may see Reeves return yet.
For now, we at least get to know for certain that a new Matrix film is in development, and we will keep you updated as things progress from here.
