The new thriller from Jordan Peele of Key and Peele fame has a new trailer and an official release date.
Get Out is written and directed by Peele, and stars Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, Catherine Keener, and Bradley Whitford.
The release date has been announced by Universal as February 14th 2017.
The film follows a young interracial couple Chris and Rose (Kaluuya and Williams) finally at the “meet the parents” stage of their relationship. Chris has already expressed concerns over meeting Rose’s parents, asking “Do they know I’m black?”
His concerns are, obviously, valid - not just because of the plot of the film, in which it transpires that Rose’s parents (Keener and Whitford) have hypnotised several black people in the community to work for them. There’s also the rapidly growing racial tensions in the USA, which Peele has been planning to integrate into a horror movie.
“I don’t want to say too much about it, but it is one of the very, very few horror movies that does jump off of racial fears,” Peele told Playboy Magazine. “That to me is a world that hasn’t been explored. Specifically, the fears of being a black man today. The fears of being any person who feels like they’re a stranger in any environment that is foreign to them. It deals with a protagonist that I don’t see in horror movies.
“Get Out takes on the task of exploring race in America, something that hasn’t really been done within the genre since Night of the Living Dead 47 years ago. It’s long overdue.”
