A new trailer for this epic biographical adventure movie starring Charlie Hunnam, Robert Pattinson, Sienna Miller, and Tom Holland, has been released.
The Lost City of Z stars Charlie Hunnam as real-life military man and explorer Colonel Percy Fawcett, whose headlong, repeated search for a fabled lost city deep in the Amazon rain-forest slowly eroded his professional and family life before he finally disappeared in 1925, along with his son Jack (played by Spider-Man: Homecoming's Tom Holland).
The film promises to be a sweeping, engrossing period drama, delving deep into the obsessions that drive Fawcett and the doubts that plague him as he returns again and again to the rain-forest, searching for answers he may never find. The Lost City of Z has already seen critical acclaim in its festival outings, with critics variously praising its evocation of classic adventure cinema, its sweeping scope, and its surprisingly nuanced approach to the perils of colonialism and the treatment of the native tribes of the Amazon.
The performances have also garnered a lot of attention, with Charlie Hunnam reportedly outdoing himself with a considered, heartfelt performance, and Robert Pattinson proving in his supporting role as Fawcett's friend and confidante Henry Costin that, yeah, forget Twilight, he's actually a very good actor (seriously, watch Cosmopolis sometime, you'll be knocked off your dang feet).
The director, James Gray, has been making prestige genre fare for a number of years now, with recent sleepers like The Immigrant and We Own The Night unfortunately slipping beneath the radar of most moviegoers. Hopefully his latest proves to be an exception.
The Lost City of Z is set to hit UK cinemas on 24th March 2017.
