Nicolas Hoult is set to join the casting that already includes Benedict Cumberbatch and Michael Shannon in the upcoming period legal drama The Current War.
Set in the 1880s, this film follows the public clash between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse as to who was to decide the future of electricity. It was the decision between direct current (DC) which Edison favoured over alternating current (AC) which Westinghouse and several other companies preferred.
Nikola Tesla, the famed investor who arrived to the states in 1884 and worked briefly with Edison is close to be played by Hoult. Tesla fell out with Edison not long after joining him to then end up selling most of his patents to Westinghouse.
The film should start shooting this December and has Alfonso Gomez-Rejon to direct with a cinema release tipped for next year.
