If you remember a little while ago we reported on an all-female remake of Ocean’s 11 in the works and beginning to build up it’s cast. The remake is set to be Ocean’s 8 and continue the theme of a star-studded cast as a main cast is very close to being confirmed.
At the moment, nothing is 100% confirmed for this film other than director Gary Ross (The Hunger Games) will begin filming the feature in New York in October. That leaves him about two months to get the casting rounded up so it’s time to get a move on.
Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett and Helena Bonham Carter have been attached to the movie unofficially for well over a month now so it looks like they’re going to be the forerunners as the big leads for the film. Currently in talks, and close to confirming a deal, are Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Mindy Kaling (Wreck-It Ralph, Inside Out) and Awkwafina (Bad Neighbours 2). Altogether this cast has 3 Oscars and 2 Oscar nominations between them as well as a very impressive film collection between them all. Well, except Rihanna because we’d all like to forget Battleships.
This all-female remake has been planned for quite some time, it’s not something new that has come out on the back of Ghostbusters as many people will be lead to believe. Warner Bros. President of Creative Development, Greg Silverman, has been developing this for a little while now. It was being planned with original Ocean’s 11 trilogy producer Jerry Weintraub who sadly died in the summer of 2015.
Original director Steven Soderbergh is set to produce the film and Olivia Milch is writing the script for director Gary Ross. Silverman will also be on board as a producer and Susan Ekins, producer of Ocean’s 11, as executive producer.
Ocean’s 8 begins shooting in October and currently has no release date.
