To celebrate the birthday of star Jack Nicholson, BFI is re-releasing the classic One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest in UK cinemas.
One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest is one of those classic films whose title gets bandied about a lot, but trust me, there's good reason for it. As well as being an incredibly important film in terms of film-making, representation, storytelling etcetera, the film is just a plain great watch - harrowing, uplifting, hopeful, tense, devastating. There's a good reason it won five Oscars and all manner of other awards.
And of course, it all surrounds a virtuoso performance by Jack Nicholson, who is without fault one of our greatest living actors. So the BFI, who are quickly becoming one of my favourite national film institutes, is re-releasing the film to coincide with the actor's 80th birthday. This'll be an excellent chance to see this great film on the big screen for the first time, at least outside the odd showing at repertory houses, in decades.
That's 22nd April 2017, in case you were wondering. Mark your calendars.
