Pitch Perfect 3 was announced to no one’s surprise after the outrageous success of Pitch Perfect 2, both critically and at the box office. The all-women ensemble are set to bring it back now after a director has been found to get the third movie going.
Elizabeth Banks was initially attached to the film as director having directed the 2nd instalment, not to mention she’s a producer and star of the films. She then backed out of the film due to other commitments and the movie has been in limbo ever since as the hunt for a replacement director began.
Pitch Perfect 3 has been reshuffled a little with writer Mike White penning a new draft for the movie and the original release date of 21st July 2017 being pushed back to 22nd December 2017. It looks like we may see some more solid progress, however, as director Trish Sie has now been formally attached to the film.
Trish Sie (pictured left) is most known in film for directing Step Up All In, the fifth instalment of the hip hop dance franchise, but she’ll be known to a much wider audience for her work as the director for the mega-viral OK Go music videos. She directed the first video “Here It Goes Again”, AKA: the treadmill video. She also directed the recent “Upside Down & Inside Out” video for the band which features them in a choreographed zero-gravity plane. So basically, Sie is talented and no stranger to choreographing nightmarishly-tricky scenes.
With Sie on board to direct, Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson are set to return to the franchise, joined by Brittany Snow and Hailee Steinfeld. Banks will also be returning to the film to star and produce with Mike White to remain on writing duty.
Pitch Perfect 3 will sing it’s way onto cinema screens on 22nd December 2017
