The official red band trailer for Julia Decournau's grisly cannibal horror film Raw has been released, and it looks bloody disgusting in all the best ways.
Raw concerns a young vegetarian who undergoes a hazing ritual at veterinary school that involves forcible meat-eating, after which she begins to grow ever more carnivorous, eventually graduating to human flesh.
The film is Julia Decournau's directorial debut, and boy does it look like she's made a strong one. Raw made some waves at Fantastic Fest last year, with a lot of people whom this writer trusts breathlessly recommending it. Horror movies aren't to everyone's taste, and gory cannibal horror movies even less so, but this looks like one that that select audience can't possibly pass up. If anything, it's certainly got better cinematography than the usual gore-horror fair.
Also, there were reports of people fainting during some screenings, so maybe stay away from this one if you're the squeamish type.
Raw still doesn't have a UK release date, but this writer will be keeping his eye out for announcements concerning limited releases and VOD dates, so if you've got a taste for some creepy cinema, watch this space.
