With La La Land about to arrive in UK cinemas, Ryan Gosling will be working with director Damien Chazelle once again, starring in a biopic about Neil Armstrong.
In the biopic entitled First Man, Gosling will be starring as astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon’s surface. The script has been adapted from James Hansen’s book First Man: The Life of Neil Armstrong by Spotlight co-writer Josh Singer. First Man chronicles Armstrong’s time as a Navy bomber flyer and test pilot, before being recruited by NASA in 1960. He quickly ascended the ranks and eventually became the leader of the 1969 Apollo 11 mission to the moon.
Chezelle has been attached to direct First Man since just after Whiplash, and Gosling has always been his first choice for the role of Armstrong. There were talks of Gosling’s potential involvement in First Man back in 2015, but a busy filming schedule ahead of him kept the film from going ahead - but now the deals are signed and production is ready to begin, with shooting set to commence over the course of 2017.
