Ahead of the release of Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049, Warner Bros. have released the first of three short prequel films.
To tease and tantalise us as we get closer to Blade Runner 2049 we have the first of three short films based in the years leading up to the year 2049, exclusively from our friends at Collider. The original movie is set in 2019 (with technology just a smidge ahead of what we have now...) and this first short, directed by Luke Scott takes place in 2036; seventeen years after the original and thirteen before the sequel.
The short see's Jared Leto's Niander Wallace have a meeting with a small group of, what appears to be, magistrates who are dealing with Wallace and the prohibition of Replicants. See the short film yourself below as it gives a nice and neat prelude and contect to 2049.
Wallace is certainly one creepy customer. He's clearly obsessed with the idea of producing these perfect Replicants, known as Nexus 9, and is using this meeting as a demonstration of their absolute unwavering loyalty. The short film also gives some hints as to what's happened in the past and the current state of affairs on Earth during this time.
Blade Runner 2049 is hitting UK and US cinemas 6th October, just over a month away now.
