We finally have a release date for Steven Soderbergh's latest big screen effort, a heist-comedy starring Adam Driver, Daniel Craig, and Channing Tatum.
The release has been set for the 18th of August this year. Mark your calendars! Logan Lucky has a lot of things going for it. For one thing, it's Steven Soderbergh's first feature since he put out Side Effects in 2013 and claimed to have left big screen directing for good, preferring to work on small screen fare like the brilliant The Knick. We all knew he'd make his way back eventually, but the question was "when?" Well, we finally have our answer.
If that wasn't reason enough to be excited, it also happens to star Adam Driver (who's been proving again and again recently that he's an actor to watch out for), Daniel Craig (in his first, much-deserved outing on a non-Bond in years), Channing Tatum (a great comedy actor trapped in a leading man's body), and a whole host of other talent, including Hilary Swank, Seth MacFarlane, Katie Holmes, and Katherine Waterston.
Tatum and Driver star as Jimmy and Clyde Logan, two brothers who set out to execute an elaborate robbery during the Coca-Cola 600 race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Someone compared this to Kubrick's The Killing, but with NASCAR instead of horse-racing, and that sounds like a pretty fun time to this writer. Soderbergh's also proved himself extremely capable with the light-hearted heist movie at this point, as well (the Ocean's movies, anyone?), so we're in the hands of a master here.
Again, look out for Logan Lucky come the 18th of August. It's going to be one hell of a treat.
