It's not out until next year's blockbuster season, but Sony and Marvel have already announced a sequel for Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Confidence for the web-slinging hero appears to be running high over at Sony and Marvel, and the same can definitely be said for fans of the Marvel franchise; Tom Holland certainly acquitted himself well in Captain America: Civil War, and the trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming certainly promises a fun ride.
So it is that they've already announced a sequel, which is currently set for 5th July, 2019. That seems pretty specific for such a far-off date (and a movie that, as far as we know, isn't even in pre-production yet), but this seems like another display of confidence in the property. These huge, effects-heavy tent-pole films are difficult beasts to wrangle, so setting such a firm date this far ahead of production is a self-assured move.
Whether that confidence is well-founded or not can be mulled over once Homecoming hits cinemas on the 7th of July next year.
