Spider-Man Universe Expanding With Sony Film

With Spider-Man: Homecoming being released this July, Sony is already hard at work beginning to expand the Spider-Man universe, with a new film starring Silver Sable and Black Cat in development.

With production looking to start in the autumn, Thor: Ragnarok writer Chris Yost will be tackling the screenplay. Amy Pascal and Matt Tolmach will be producing, and the search for a director will go underway soon.

Silver Sable first appeared in the Spider-Man comics in 1985 - a few years after Black Cat, whose first appearance was in 1979. Silver Sable is a mercenary and hunter of war criminals, as well as Leader of the Wild Pack and CEO of Silver Sable International. In the comics, she’s worked both alongside and against other Marvel heroes, and has appeared in Spider-Man: The Animated SeriesSpider-Man: The New Animated Series and The Spectacular Spider-Man.

Black Cat, or Felicia Hardy, is the daughter of a famed cat burglar. After a traumatic experience in college, she swore never to be a victim again, and took on the persona of Black Cat to emulate her father’s line of work. After mastering acrobatics and various fighting styles, she has come up against many Marvel heroes, but most notably Spider-Man. Felicia Day played Felicia Hardy in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and Black Cat has been seen in Spider-Man: The Animated Series and The Spectacular Spider-Man.

We’ll keep you posted with more details of the film as they come out.
