Two years ago we got Denzel Washington playing Denzel Washington as he shot his way to help Chloe Grace Moretz and it looks like he’s going to be returning to this badassery as The Equalizer sequel has been slated to begin filming next year.
The Equalizer was a reboot, albeit a vague reboot, of an American TV series of the same name and it starred Denzel Washington doing very Denzel Washington things. That means he was a grumpy, frowny man who was very good at shooting and beating up bad guys. Before the movie was released in 2014 Sony Pictures had actually already began working on it’s sequel, which is ballsy for what was a distinctly average movie.
Original director Antoine Fuqua is looking like he’ll be returning to direct the feature and producer Todd Black has confirmed that Washington himself will also be making a return to the series. Speaking to Collider about this sequel, Black was talking about the readiness of the film saying "The script is done. We start shooting right after Labor Day, maybe right before Labor Day depending on Denzel’s schedule. So Equalizer 2 will start shooting in September of next year, maybe earlier depending on another movie that we’re shooting with Denzel before that. We’re going to do a little bit more work and we’re going to go into casting right after that for his nemesis."
So, depending on schedules, I predict that we’ll have Equalizer 2 by mid/late 2018.
