This summer was the release of The Secret Life of Pets from Illumination Entertainment, the people who inflicted Minions upon the world. It had a fair amount of excitement around it and it’s been doing well at the box office that Universal Pictures have decided that a sequel is in order.
The Secret Life of Pets follows Max (Louis CK) as his life of luxury is spoiled when his owner brings home a troublesome rescue dog Duke (Eric Stonestreet) and then calamity ensures and, to no ones surprise, they both up lost in New York. The movie has a lot of throwback to Toy Story but still keeps it’s own fresh image.
It is no surprise that Illumination and Universal have confirmed the fact that they’re doing a sequel. So far the movie has collected a very respectable $400 million (£300m) in the box office and still has some international runs to make. The family film now looks like it’s set to become Illumination’s second big franchise after it’s Despicable Me run.
Chris Renaud will be returning to direct the film which has been given a release date of 13th July 2018. We have no news if any of the cast will be returning as of yet but it is early days.
