The sequel to Danny Boyle and Irvine Welsh’s 1996 cult classic has a new trailer, reuniting Renton (Ewan McGregor), Spud (Ewan Bremner), Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller), Begbie (Robert Carlyle) and their favourite illegal substances 20 years down the line.
The trailer echoes the dream-logic sentiments of the first film, with narration like “Choose life. Choose Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and hope that someone, somewhere, cares.” We also get confirmation that Kelly MacDonald is indeed returning as Diane, Renton’s sharp and witty almost-soulmate.
The official synopsis for the film is as follows: “Mark Renton returns to the only place he can ever call home. They are waiting for him: Spud, Sick Boy, and Begbie. Other old friends are waiting too: sorrow, loss, joy, vengeance, hatred, friendship, love, longing, fear, regret, diamorphine, self-destruction and mortal danger, they are all lined up to welcome him, ready to join the dance.”
You can watch the trailer below, and catch the film in UK cinemas on 27th January 2017.
