Two new posters have been released for the upcoming Ghost in the Shell adaptation.
The new posters (below) portray Scarlett Johansson’s character jumping through glass, and a more minimalist poster of an up-close, threatening-looking robot geisha.
Ghost in the Shell, which began life as a manga series by Japanese writer and illustrator Masamune Shirow, follows The Major (Johansson): a powerful cyborg enforcer constructed by Hanka Robotics to take down those who would attack their technological assets.
The film has stirred up controversy in particular from fans of the original who fear it won’t live up to its origins, and those concerned about the apparent lack of cultural sensitivity in casting a white lead for what is an inherently Japanese story. We’ll see whether it will confirm those fears or not when the film is released on 31st March.
