Under normal circumstances Marvel Studios like to make announcements and confirm rumours themselves and, usually, with a little flair. But sometimes people can get ahead of themselves as it looks like Vin Diesel has as he announced on Facebook that the Guardians of the Galaxy are set to appear in Avengers: Infinity War.
Now to clear up some confusing, we must remind you that the next Avengers movies are not going to be a Part 1 and Part 2 deal as was originally announced. Instead we are getting Avengers: Infinity War and the an unnamed sequel. So when Vin Diesel took his Facebook page and announced in a live video that the Guardians of the Galaxy would be featured in Infinity War we are assuming that, for now, this refers to the one movie.
Diesel portrays Groot in the Guardians films, through motion-capture and voice recording, so we assume that he has either been privy to discussion on the future Marvel Cinematic Universe plans or that contracts have started to be signed by the cast.
This announcement is no surprise really and we have always suspected that the Guardians would make an appearance. The big bad Thanos, who we’ve seen across several Marvel films now, featured most heavily in the Guardians film and is known to be the leading villain for Infinity Wars, as hinted in the title as Thanos is the original holder of the Infinity Gems which have been scattered throughout the MCU. So, the Guardians showing up to help the Avengers on Earth would be no surprise but then again who ever said the battle would take place on Earth? Either way, Star-Lord and pals joining in the fun with Thanos was always on the table.
We will see Vin Diesel as Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on 5th May 2017 and then again in Avengers: Infinity War on 4th May 2018.
