Kathryn Bigelow is currently working on developing a film based around the infamous 1967 Detroit Riots which last four days and ended in 16 deaths. John Boyega is already attached to the film in a leading role and now rising star Will Poulter has been added to the cast.
The untitled Detroit Riots film is set to be a crime drama and Kathryn Bigelow’s first feature film since 2012’s Zero Dark Thirty. Bigelow is known for her hard hitting drama with The Hurt Locker and K-19: The Widowmaker under her belt. She already has John Boyega joining her in this film and is continuing to bring on very talented young actors with the addition of Will Poulter, known for starring in the first Maze Runner film and The Revenant.
Bigelow will be working from an original script by Mark Boal who also wrote The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty. They are currently looking at filming very soon in Detroit and Boston but no word on a release date just yet. Considering their record of working together, expect a few Oscars to head this way.
