So out of the twenty thousand actors playing named roles in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming, Zendaya is one that has peaked the most interest. Although Marvel and Sony are keeping everything quiet for the most part, it has now been revealed which key character she will be playing.
When it was announced that Zendaya, known for her work on the Disney Channel, would be a part of Spider-Man: Homecoming it caused something of a stir. In a good way, though. These prayers have been answered as it has been revealed by sources close to the project, according to The Wrap, that she will playing the role of Mary Jane Watson alongside Tom Holland as Spider-Man.
Mary Jane Watson, previously portrayed by Kirsten Dunst in the Tobey Maguire Spidey films, is the name that is instantly recognisable as Spider-Man’s primary love interest. With the film seemingly set to focus on the teenage life of Spider-Man, or rather his ‘real’ life as Peter Parker, we can expect Mary Jane to be a rather large part of this film.
Joining Zendaya and Holland in leading roles will be Michael Keaton as the villain The Vulture, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man and Marisa Tomei as Aunt May. There is also a massive ensemble of other actors in named roles for this film such as Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Donald Glover, Kenneth Choi and Bokeem Woodbine.
Spider-Man: Homecoming will be swinging into cinemas on 7th July 2017.
